専門はドイツ語学・言語学です。単に「ドイツ語」と言っても，使用されている時代や地域，社会的グループまたは個人でも違いがあるため，そうしたドイツ語の多様性に着目し，ドイツ語だけが持つ特徴や他の言語との共通点を探しています。また，スイスのチューリヒに滞在していたことがあり，スイスのドイツ語と他のドイツ語圏のドイツ語との違いにも注目しています。さらに，スイスという国そのものへの関心から，スイスの多言語教育から「アルプスの少女ハイジ」まで，スイスの文化や社会に関する地域研究にも興味があります。
