広義には、人はどのようにして第二言語を学ぶのか、そして，そのプロセスに「道具」はどのように関係しているのか、という問いに関心を持っています。こうした関心を教育機関のコンテクストに落とし込みながら、第二言語習得とテクノロジー利用の関係性について研究し、デジタル教材や学習支援システムの開発と応用、授業と連動した測定と評価方法の開発に取り組んできました。また、最近では、人が「英語資本（Linguistic Capital in English）」を獲得しようとする営為は、当事者らにとって、どのように意味づけられ、構造化され、また再生産・再投資されているのか、社会文化的視点から研究しています。
