中国近世の社会史を研究テーマとしており、そのなかでも宋代から清代における民俗宗教や家族・女性の問題について研究してきた。近年は清代の地方档案である『巴県档案』の研究を進め、清代における基層社会のあり方を考察するとともに、「善書」と呼ばれる宗教文献から当時の人々の価値観を探りたいと考えている。
