100年後にどんな世界が望ましいのか。人々の暮らしを支える技術やエネルギーの実現を時間軸で考え、ロードマップに落し込み、研究テーマ化します。もちろん100年後のテーマを今から取り組むのではなく、北極星の如くその道しるべに沿って1歩ずつ研究を進めていきます。
具体的にはナノレベルで構造制御した材料研究により、液体燃料から直接発電する「燃料電池」・傷んだら自己治癒する「自動車排ガス浄化触媒」・プラズマによる「ディーゼル排出粒子浄化」・水素爆発を未然に防ぐ「水素再結合触媒」などを開発してきました。これからも産業界や大学・研究所との国際的な連携により「Mastery for Service」を実現することをミッションと考えています。
「答えはひとつではない」社会では答えのない問題(Aporia)に直面したり、自ら課題形成しその答えに悩むということを多く経験していくことでしょう。1つの答えで満足せず前提条件を変えながら別解を求め、深堀りしていく楽しさを味わって欲しいと思います。ダイバーシティ(diversity:多様性)を考えていくと研究テーマはいくらでも沸き出てくることを、是非皆さんに経験して欲しいと希望します。
