　私の研究分野は史的統語論です。生成文法という言語理論（人間は言語運用を可能とする言語機能(Language Faculty)を生まれながらに備えていると仮定）を使って、英語の歴史的変化の要因とメカニズムの解明を試みています。
　言語は時代とともに変化します。特に英語はその1500年の歴史の中で相当な変化を受けたとされる言語で、様々な興味深い現象が観察されます。このような現象に対して、史的コーパスを使って現代以前の英語の言語資料を収集し、得られたデータから浮かび上がる言語事実と言語変化の記述を試みています。さらに、記述するだけでなく、生成文法理論を用いて説明を与えることで、言語理論の発展に貢献していきたいと考えています。
　これまで定冠詞や属格名詞句、所有代名詞等の名詞句内修飾要素の歴史的発達を研究領域として、内容語が機能語に変化する文法化という観点から研究を進めてきました。近年では、名詞修飾形容詞の統語と意味に関する研究に取り組んでいます。
