私の研究分野は江戸時代の日本絵画です。特に伝統的な絵画であるやまと絵に興味をもち、幕府の庇護を受けて活躍した住吉派という流派（絵画制作集団）に注目しています。この流派は、長い間、忘れ去られていましたが、正統派でありながらも、大胆でドラマティックな、時にマンガのような人物描写が、近年、評価されつつあります。
現在の大きな研究テーマは以下の二点です。一点目は作品や作家の評価はどのように決められるのかという点です。その理由が解明されれば、住吉派のように忘れ去られた作家たちに、再び光が当たるかもしれません。
二点目は海外の日本美術コレクションがどのような目的で収集され、どのように評価されたのかという点です。住吉派も国内より大英博物館やボストン美術館などにまとまったコレクションが存在します。これらを検討することで、美術作品を通した異文化理解の在り方が見えてくるのではないかと思います。
大学教員になる前は博物館で学芸員の仕事をしていました。本学でも展覧会の見学や作品調査を積極的に取り入れながら、実践的な研究や教育を行いたいと考えています。
