私は家族の問題について、経済学のアプローチを利用して分析を行っています。

伝統的な経済学では、家計をあたかも一人の個人であるかのように想定して分析がなされてきました。しかし、現実には家族には夫婦、親子と家族を構成する人々は複数存在しており、それぞれに考えを持って生活しています。私は家族による複雑な意思決定のもと、これまで議論されてきた社会経済の帰結や政策の効果がどのように変化するのかを研究してきました。たとえば、夫婦で財布の紐をだれが握るのか、兄弟で高齢の親の介護を誰が行うか、またそのために誰がどれだけ働くか、という各世帯の選択は、その家族だけでなく社会全体にも労働市場をはじめさまざまな経路を通じて影響を与え、また公共政策の効果も変えてしまうとも考えられます。

さらに最近では家計内の意思決定プロセスだけではなく、家族がどのように形成されるのかという問題にも関心を持っています。現代では戦後の象徴とされた父と母、子どもという核家族という概念すら薄れ、単身世帯が増えるなど家族という組織の多様性も広がってきました。一方で、片親世帯の貧困や家庭内の様々な問題にあえぐ人たちは、既存の家族の在り方にとらわれ、制度に取り残されたことで自らの幸せを追求することが困難になっている側面もあります。法学や社会学、心理学など他分野の知見を取り入れながら家族の経済学研究を通してこのような問題にも取り組んでいきたいと思っています。
