日本に伝来する作品を中心に、染織品の歴史を研究しています。
染織品は、衣服や調度など、常に身近にある実用品ですが、所持者の地位や趣味を表すため、当時の社会の実相や人々の美意識を秘めています。現存する作品の丁寧な観察を基本に、同時代の絵画資料や関連する文献を参照しながら、作品の製作年代を比定するとともに、染織品に托された当時の人々の想いを考察しています。
作品をより深く知る手がかりをどうやって見つけ出すのか、講義や演習を通して考えていきたいと思います。
