X線の回折現象を用いた物質構造の研究が一貫した研究テーマである。現在はシンクロトロン放射光などの強力なX線ビームを用いて半導体、誘電体、コロイド、ポリマー、形状記憶合金などの応用上も有用な物質群の表面・界面の構造&モフォロジーを調査し、表面・界面でそれらの物質が示す特色ある物理現象との関連を解き明かそうとの試みを行っている。
