日本で米文学を中心に勉強した後、大学院でアメリカ合衆国に行き比較文学を専攻しました。したがって、一番の専門はアメリカの20世紀小説ですが、領域横断的に文学、美学、哲学、写真、映画などの諸分野に関心を広く持ち、論文を書いています。2017年には『触れることのモダニティ』というアメリカに提出した博士論文を基にした本を出版しました。現在の関心は二つあります。一つ目はトランプ政権化における文化や文学の問題で、特に現在の全体主義や暴力についての議論の高まりを追っています。もう一つの関心は長年研究を続けているアメリカの女流作家ウォートンの作品で歴史認識がどのように表出されているかを考えています。大学では、学生が文化や文学を学ぶことを通じて英語力を高め、人文学における幅広い教養を身につけられるよう、授業やゼミを工夫したいと思います。人間と人工知能、国民と国家、知と経験、セックスとジェンダー、暴力と優しさ、こうした誰にでも関わりのある問題を一緒に考えていきたいです。
