20世紀及び現代イギリス小説を研究の中心とし、ヴァージニア・ウルフ、E. M. フォースター等のモダニズムの作家から、カズオ・イシグロ、イアン・マキューアン等の現代作家まで幅広く扱っています。二つの世界大戦が起こった20世紀は正に激動の時代であり、その中で文学作品が様々な社会の変化をつぶさに反映しながらも、古代から変わらぬ人間の精神の普遍を多様な方法で描き出している様に、常に惹かれてきました。ウルフの1925年出版の代表作『ミセス・ダロウェイ』が、後年の英米の作家によるアダプテーションにおいて如何に「加工」されつつも「保持」されてきたか、を単著にまとめた後、現在はカズオ・イシグロの作品で「悪」がどのように描かれているか、をテーマに研究を進めています。
　文学作品について発表を行ったり、論文を書くことで、社会的問題の解決に繋がり得ると考える人は少ないかもしれませんが、多くの問題解決の根本となる「他者の考えを理解すること」の訓練として、文学作品を味わうことは素晴らしい手段となります。多種多様なメディアが渦巻く時代であるからこそ、本を手にすることで広がる世界の豊かさを伝えていきたいと願っています。
