人間の学習・思考過程に関しての実験心理学的研究。人間が外界の種々の情報を取捨選択し、統合してゆく過程は帰納推論と呼ばれ、学習の重要な側面の一つである。このような情報処理は従来より記号操作の過程として記述・説明のなされる事が多いが、実際の人間の行なう推論は環境の様々な制約条件のもとで動的に変化する。このような点に関して、実証的なデータに基づいた研究を行なっている。
