人間の認知能力を取り扱う科学の一分野としての言語学、特に統語論（文の構成法）を中心に研究を行っています。様々な言語の文法は一見、恣意的に異なっているような印象を与えますが、よく見ると、偶然とは思えない「異なり方の偏り」があります。生成文法と呼ばれる言語の研究法では、各言語の文法を「人間言語」の文法の限られたバリエーションの一つと捉えることで、なぜ異なり方に偏りがあるのかという問題だけではなく、我々人間が言語を習得し、使用する能力がそもそもどういうものなのかという問題にもアプローチしようとしています。私はこのフレームワークに沿って、多くの言語に見られる格・一致の現象を手がかりに節構造について何が言えるかという問題に取り組んでいます。
