今から数十億年前の地球上で情報が発現し、それを本質とする生命が誕生しました。その後、その生命は、離れた所へ高速に情報を通信して処理できる神経システムを創造し、さらに進化を加速しました。そうした進化の過程で生まれた人類は、現在、 IT（情報技術）によって地球上のあらゆるものを情報的に接続しようとしています。その結果、さまざまな恩恵が新たにもたらされ始めましたが、これらは未だ限られた地域の限られた人々だけのものです。同様にさまざまな問題も新たにもたらされており、これらはより多くの人々に影響を与えています。このような状況を情報技術的および情報倫理的な観点から見据えて、その解決方法を考えています。いつでも、どこでも、だれでも、簡便に、安全に、そして低いコストで、その恩恵を享受できるような情報システムを目指しています。
