第一に、中国（中華人民共和国）や中華圏の政治経済ならびに国際関係について、ないがしろにされがちな基礎的な事実関係の再検討を進める必要がある、という観点から、中国の経済発展／開発をめぐる政治、中央と地方の関係／ガバナンス（財政、人事）、中国をめぐる国際政治（史）について、研究することが狭い専門分野です。第二に、第一の点にも必要であるため、アジア・太平洋地域を中心とするグローバルな政治経済、国際関係の変動について理解、フォローすることも心がけています。
