批判的社会理論の系譜を踏まえながら「公共圏とメディア」という視座から、現代社会の問題点を理論的かつ具体的に考える作業を続けてきた。近年は、カルチュラル・スタディーズの知見を踏まえて、「ナショナルなもの」に潜む問題点を、具体的事例に即して研究している。これまでの研究に一貫する問題意識は、理論と現実を分断的に捉えるのではなく、いかにして両者を媒介する「知」は可能なのか、という課題に取り組むことである。
