開発経済学、国際経済学、環境経済学における実証分析を専門としています。現在取り組んでいる研究課題は以下のとおりです。
① 相互利益を実現する政府開発援助（Official Development Assistance: ODA）の探究
高齢化による人口構造の変化や社会保障費の増大により財政の制約が強まるなか、先進国では援助予算の大幅な削減が進んでいます。こうした状況を受けて、政策担当者・研究者・実務家のあいだでは、援助政策の持続可能性や、それが受益国の開発経路に及ぼす影響への懸念が一段と高まっています。その中で新たに注目されているのが、ODAを受益国の開発効果だけでなく、ドナー国自身にとっても外交・安全保障・経済面での利益をもたらし得る仕組みとして捉える視点です。援助が国益とどのように結びつくかを示すことで国内の政治的支持を高め、国際協力を一方向の資源移転ではなく「相互的なパートナーシップ」として再定義する考え方として、徐々に重視されつつあります。しかし、こうした「相互利益」を実際に生み出すODAに関する学術的エビデンスは現時点ではほとんど存在していません。本研究課題では、貿易・投資・移民・外交といった複数の側面から、相互利益をもたらすODAのメカニズムを体系的に解明することを目指します。

② 中国援助が被援助国および西側ドナーに与える影響に関する実証研究
2000年以降、中国は開発金融の主要な供与国として急速に存在感を高めてきました。2000〜2021年の間に、中国は133か国で約1万2,700件の政府開発援助（ODA）相当のプロジェクトを実施し、その総額は約1,780億米ドルに達しています。これは規模の面で米国、日本、ドイツに次ぐ水準です。中国援助は、手続きの簡素化、大規模インフラへの重点、内政不干渉の方針といったOECD‑DAC型の援助とは異なる特徴を持ち、受益国にとって魅力的な選択肢となっています。また、中国と欧米ドナーの協調が限定的であるため、受益国の選択肢は広がり、援助をめぐる競争的な力学が強まる可能性があります。本研究課題では、中国援助が西側ドナーの援助配分や実施方法にどのような影響を与えているのか、さらに中国援助が被援助国の開発にどのような効果をもたらしているのかを、実証的に明らかにすることを目的とします。
