 当研究室では、有機合成化学をベースとして高機能性有機材料を創出することに注力しています。望む機能を発現するためにはどの様な有機分子が適切かを設計し、それらを実際に合成して物性を明らかにしています。逆に、合成した有機分子が思わぬ物性を発現した場合、それが何に起因するかを分子シミュレーションなどを通して明らかにしています。
 ターゲットとする有機分子は低分子有機化合物のみならず、分子量が明確な巨大分子や樹状高分子、分子量数万の高分子化合物、そして分子集合体やゲル・ネットワーク高分子など多岐にわたっています。
 電気を通すプラスチックや眩い光を放つフィルム、ガスを貯蔵する粉末に傷が付きにくい樹脂、自然界を模倣した高次分子システム構築など、一人一人のアイデアを活かして社会のニーズを取り入れることにより、オリジナリティあふれる次世代材料の開発を目指して研究を続けています。
