My background is in applied linguistics and I believe that by placing an enormous emphasis on spoken discourse in the classroom, students can better develop communicative competence, consequently, improving their development as fluent English speakers and communicators. To mature as English language learners and strengthen spoken fluency, students must also comprehend how English functions as a global and diverse language culturally, linguistically and pragmatically. Therefore my research involves recording, evaluating, and analyzing spoken English with a focus on communicative competence, and exploring how pragmatic competence entwines with spoken discourse. My research also examines student motivation through student feedback documentation and analysis.
