専門とする研究分野は現代フランス語を対象とするテクスト言語学，対照言語学，対照修辞学です。「フランス語はどうしてこのようになっているのか」「フランス語は日本語（や他の言語）とどのように違っているのか」「フランス語とはどういう言語か」ということについて考え，このような疑問に関係する言語現象を正確に記述し，なぜそのような現象が起きるのかについて，体系的な説明を与えることを目指しています。特に，文と文のつながりかた，文を組み合わせて１つのまとまりのある文章（テクスト，談話）をつくる原理，その際に現れる言語による好みや慣習の違いに注目して研究しています。教育に関しては，学生さんの自主性を重んじます。つまり学生さんが自分で問題を発見し，たとえ失敗しても自らの頭で考えていくことを重視します。（もちろん，大失敗しないための指導はしますが。）言葉を観察し，疑問を持ち，自分で問題を設定した上で，それを探求していく態度を身につけてほしいと思いますし，最大限そのお手伝いをしたいと思います。

    Title:A French-Japanese contrastive study of logic: utterances and discourse markers
    Project summary:　論理とは一見普遍的なようであるが，そのスタイルは言語が異なれば必ずしも一致しない。国際コミュニケーションの重要性が高まる中，異文化間の情報伝達の特徴と問題点を，文化と言語による論理の違いとしてとらえ，言語学的に意味のある分析をすることは，国際的相互理解の面から意義が大きい。発想法も構造も非常に異なる日仏両言語の論証的思考表現を比較し，各言語固有の論理の表現方法を明らかにする。
    　研究の対象としては，フランス語をとりあげるが，それは，フランス語が，英語と並んで西洋的思考の形成に大きな影響をあたえてきた上，論理性にたいする規範意識が英語よりもさらに高く，このような対照研究の対象として最もふさわしい言語だからである。
    　日仏両言語の特徴と相違を理解することは，国際社会において，政治やビジネスの場での交渉を円滑に進め，文化摩擦を避けるためにも有益である。また，日本語を他言語と比較することで，日本語と日本文化の特徴を浮き彫りにする。そこから発展して，言語に依存しない論理的思考力とは何かも追求する。
