Teaching and Research Fields
I'm very interested in Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL), researching innovative and creative ways to facilitate language acquisition. This includes spatial repetition, combined with using corpus linguistics for frequency data for effective vocabulary learning. More recently I’m investigating uses of Virtual and Augmented Reality (VR/AR) for a better constructivist approach learning that incorporates collaborative, autonomous and contextual learning.

Presentations 【 display / non-display

  • David McCurrach gave a presentation at the 8th IAFOR International Conference on Education in Hawaii (IICE 2023) entitled:

"Anxiety Japanese University Teachers Faced During the Pandemic - Lesson's Learned and Strategies for Effective Management During Educational Change"

The presentation was based on doctoral research on mental health of teachers during the pandemic, and argued that the emerging field of psychodynamics ought to be taken into more consideration during stressful educational change. The paper is currently being revised for publication.

The presentation was followed by questions and similarly-themed presentations. Throughout the conference, I was able to watch a diverse number of presentations, meet and talk to many researchers from around the world. These discussions prompted new ideas for further research in the theme of educational change.
