私たちは身近に存在する天然物質を利用することで様々な恩恵を受けています。例えば、漢方薬は膨大な経験知によって選び抜かれた「疾患に対して効果を示す天然物質」の利用したものであり、その他の治療薬も天然物質をヒントに創製されたものが約半数を占めています。これらの物質は、私たちの体を形作る細胞内外の分子ネットワークに作用することで薬効・副作用をもたらします。ゆえに、その作用機序を理解することは生命現象の理解にも繋がります。我々は薬効・副作用を持つ天然化合物から皮膚・軟骨形成に関連する疾患を中心に、その発症メカニズムの究明および治療薬創製のヒントとなり得る標的分子の発見を目指し研究を行っていきます。
