Teaching and Research Fields
With a long professional history of teaching English for Occupational Purposes (EOP) at Japanese domestic and multinational companies in Japan, I have a strong background and interest in training Japanese speakers to use English as a Lingua Franca in the workplace. A key area of my research has been how needs analysis (NA) is used in designing and developing EOP programs.
Teaching at the university level, I want to engage my students in exploring the topics of intercultural communication, sociolinguistics, and pragmatics, as well as developing their core abilities in speaking, writing, reading, and listening to English. My ultimate aim is to train students to communicate effectively across cultural boundaries, not only at the university, but also as adults in a globalized workplace.
