Research Outline
日本とオーストラリアの大学で教鞭をとりながら、世界各地の研究者と協働して日英両語で研究活動を行ってきました。グローバル化の進展がナショナルな枠組みの排他性を強固にするなか、文化多様性を包含する関係性・想像力・越境対話がどのように創生し実践されているかが主な研究関心です。東京のテレビ局勤務を経て多文化社会・オーストラリアでカルチュラルスタディーズと社会学に出会いました。「当たり前」を鵜呑みにしない批判的思考と日常における権力作用に関する理論は、文化多様性に関する自分の固定観念や偏見に向き合う契機となり、意識の変革を促してくれました。この知的実践が私の研究教育の原点です。日本の大学では国際系学部の人気が高まっています。私もそうした学部で長く教えましたが、足元の日常におけるグローバル化＝深まる多様性への批判的視座を十分に持たないまま世界（主に欧米）に目を向けてしまいがちです。自らが住まう社会の多様性をめぐる問題への取り組みが、より排他的でない社会へと日本を、そして世界をひらいていくことに不可欠です。関学では社会学部からグローバル化の時代における文化多様性を包含する共生のあり方と越境対話の作法を学生と共に考え模索していきます。
