私の研究分野である電力システムは、脱炭素社会や省エネルギー社会の実現へ向けて、従来の火力発電等の大規模電源から、分散型の再生可能エネルギー発電(太陽光発電、風力発電)を中心とした、新しい電力システムへ移行する変革期を迎えています。そのような将来の電力システムにおいて、私の研究では電力ネットワークとそれを構成する要素(送電線、地中ケーブル、変圧器、パワーエレクトロニクス機器、蓄電池など)に着目し、システム工学的な立場から、各構成要素をどのようにモデル化し、どのようにコントロールすべきかについて、物理的な原理原則に基づいて考えていきます。
 例えば、太陽光や風力発電は気象条件により発電出力が短時間で大きく変動します。新しい電力ネットワークにおいて、大きく変動する電力を限られた電力設備で効率的に輸送・変換・貯蔵するためには、一時的に電力設備に大きな負荷がかかることがあります。熱解析に基づき各構成要素の新しいモデルを構築し、実験やシミュレーションで妥当性を検証しながら、電力ネットワーク全体をコントロールするような新しい方法論を開発していきたいと考えています。
