Research Outline
An important part of my teaching practice is doing my own research and applying what I've learned. My research interests are broadly in the field of TESOL. My thesis work looked at the factors that impact implementation of communicative approaches to language teaching among high school teachers in Japan, and since then I've also investigated novel methods of language teacher professional development, such as Edcamp. Recently, I've been particularly interested in evaluating educational methods and course designs that promote language learner autonomy and self-reflective learning. This has lead me to do research on how technology can be used to promote Self-Access Learning in remote learning environments, and separately into whether Mindfulness training can be integrated into a metacognitive pedagogical approaches in language classrooms.
