Profile
デザインという言葉が、単にモノの意匠を指し示すものでは無く、製品がもたらす経験的価値、また何らかの仕組みやサービス全体をも対象として使用される現在、デザインは専門職としてのデザイナー養成に不可欠な技能だけでは無く、あらゆる職能に求められる課題発見に必要なリテラシー、そして課題解決のためのスキルと位置づけられつつあります。そのような広義のデザイン活動における映像メディアのあり方や、多様なステークホルダーとの対話に必要な色・素材・動きなどの要素をメッセージとして利用するデザイン言語を教育研究の対象としています。具体的には「映像デザイン」というキーワードを中心に据え、１．コンテンツを志向する映像のデザイン実践、すなわち「視覚情報をデザインする」ことと、２．社会課題の解決に向かうプロセスやそこに関わる人々との間に介在し価値創造を促すメディアを志向する映像の実践、すなわち「視覚情報によるデザイン」を考察しています。教育と研究活動の成果としては、地域コミュニティの価値発見と発信を担うコンテンツデザインや創造的ジャーナリズム、新たな共同性や公共性の実現に向かう人間の営為を後押しするソーシャルデザインなどが想定されます。

Title:The study of integrated communication design based on the usage of visual media in qualitative research methodology
Project summary:In today's design activities, visual media play important roles in the qualitative research process where designers have opportunities to identify people's problems. This type of usage of films or photos are called 'process-oriented'. On the other hand, visual media often contributes to content-creation. In this case, film making and photography functions as ' content- oriented' design activities. In this research project, I have examined the integrated use of the process and content- oriented visual media, and found that this type of media practice mediates the research process and content creation as middle-up-down management. It became apparent that this mechanism serves social issues for sustainability such as the preservation of history and culture, and also regional promotion.

Title:Experimental Approach for Schematizing and Deepening the Media Design Studies Based on the Qualitative Research Method
Project summary:Through the study on the usage of visual media as qualitative research method in the fields of Sociology and Anthropology, the author divided the visual research process into two phases: recording and analyzing phase, presenting phase. The former presents engagement to the researcher into target's world of thought, the latter as reapplying the documented information into different media source. Setting these concepts as hypothesis to analyze the examples of specific media practice in the U.K. and U.S.A., the author pointed out that these two functions take an important roll in media design project that carries the social and cultural value in cycles in the society. And also the author conducted the field research on ORI (folding/unfolding) culture with visual research method and designed the digital database for the ORI R & D exhibition at Kyoto Institute of Technology.
