専門は、英語教育学で、主な研究領域は、中学・高等学校の授業研究、スピーキング指導と評価、自律した学習者・教師の育成、CLIL、海外の外国語教育特にフィンランドの英語教育などがあげられる。最近は科学研究費助成事業にてフィンランドの英語教育関連の研究を主としている。たとえば、フィンランドの小学校・中学校の教科書分析、フィンランド型英語プラクティスを土台として日本の小学校英語における語彙・文法プラクティスの開発に携わってきている。
