原子と原子を自在に繋げて望みの分子を合成する「有機化学」と,分子同士が集まってより大きな構造体を構築していく過程を緻密に制御する「超分子化学」を専門とした教育・研究を行っています.中でも特に,生物の体内で働いている生体高分子の構造と機能に着目し,それらをよりシンプルな構造へと再設計したのち,有機化学的手法を用いて分子を合成し,超分子化学手法に基づいてその分子の集合形態を制御することで,天然分子にも引けを取らない機能性人工分子集合体を開発することに力を入れています.加えて,異なる人工分子集合体を複雑に組み合わせることで,細胞のような振る舞いを示すシステムを人工的に構築するという研究も精力的に行っています.
