Teaching and Research Fields
初期近代イギリスの演劇・詩・文化を研究対象にしています。中でもウィリアム・シェイクスピア（1564-1616）の研究に力を入れ、その作品の中では歴史（イングランド王国史や古代ローマ史など）を題材としたものに特に興味を持っています。研究は、シェイクスピアが作品を書くさいに参考にしたと言われている歴史書や先行作品を調べる地味な作業の繰り返しですが、そこから新たな発見に辿り着けたときは喜びが大きいです。また、調べ物をしていると、断片的な知識が繋がってくる楽しみも味わえます。シェイクスピアを研究する前には、アイルランドの劇作家・詩人であるW・B・イェイツ（1865-1939）の研究をしていたので、その周辺にも興味があります。得られた研究成果を教育に活かせるように授業ごとに工夫を重ねています。
