Stephen’s research focuses on cognitive and discoursal relationships in language and content learning. His research describes the disciplinary literacies of interculturalism when learnt through content and language integrated pedagogy (CLIL).

Stephen reviews for the Asian CLIL Journal, is an officer of the JCLIL Association Bookshelf, is a member of the organising board of the interntaional Asian Conference for Innovation in Education, and is on the editorial team of the Annual Research Report for Kwansei Gakuin University.

Stephen has been an English language teacher in Japan for over twenty years.
