地域コミュニティレベルの災害レジリエンスを積み上げる復旧・復興計画， 地域防災計画のフィールドワークに基づく実践的な研究を行っています。具体的には「四面会議システム技法」などの参加型WSを通した減災まちづくりの住民参加や合意形成に関心をもっています。近年は、災害救護（災害救援）、災難管理制度・政策の研究に取り組んでいます。教育では、地域社会と連携しながら，PBL(Project-Based Learning，課題解決型学習)を取り入れた授業を行っています。初期の段階では，学生と身近な課題に取り組んで，課題解決に必要な知識と手法などを修得した上で地域コミュニティ課題の解決に向けて地域と学生が一緒に参画できる実践教育活動を行います。
