私は、ろう両親の元に生まれ、目で見て手で話す生活を当たり前のように送っていました。しかし、そのような、生まれつき手話の環境がある家庭はわずか1割にすぎず、我が国には聴覚障害児（以下、ろう児）の約９割は聴こえる者（以下、聴者）の親をもつというデータが出ています。生後間もなく受ける新生児スクリーニング検査や健康診断において難聴と診断されると、保護者に対して「障害」という視点から子育てについてのアドバイスをされることがほとんどです。仮に、日本手話で子育てをすると決め、日本手話を学習したいと思っても、既存の手話講習会などは、今すぐ家庭でろう児と会話をするために必要な手話が学べるカリキュラムデザインにはなっていないため、保護者に特化した手話学習環境の整備も課題として挙げられます。研究では、直接教授法の一つである「ナチュラルアプローチ教授法」を用いることを前提とし、乳幼児期のろう児をもつ聴者の親を対象に、日本手話の指導カリキュラムを開発することを目的としています。さらに、言語習得だけではなく、ろう者の文化である「ろう文化」の理解や、ろう児を障害者ではなく「言語的少数者」と捉えて接するようになるまでの心理的変化も調査していきたいと思っています。
