分子はその「かたち」によって、色・光る性質・電気の流れやすさといった機能が決まります。私たちは、狙った機能をもつ新しい分子をデザインし、有機合成化学の技術を使って実際につくり出す研究を行っています。さらに、つくった分子どうしを弱い力で組み上げて(超分子科学)、一つの分子だけでは生まれない新しい性質を引き出すことを目指しています。分子を「設計し・つくり・組み立てる」という一連の流れを通して、未来の材料や機能性分子の創出につながる基礎研究に取り組んでいます。
