前近代のイランを中心とした、ペルシア語文化圏の歴史が専門。当時ペルシア語は中央アジアやインドを含めた広い地域で、公用語として使用されていました。現在はサファヴィー朝時代に、その経済的な繁栄を担ったカスピ海沿岸地方と中央政権との関係や、サファヴィー朝の王権表象の手段としての儀礼について研究しています。
