人と同様に眼でものを見て周囲の状況を理解できる視覚機能を，各種の機械システムに搭載するための人工知能(AI)や画像処理技術について研究している．その中でも特に生活支援ロボットなどへの応用を考え，日常生活空間における人の様々な行動をカメラで継続的に観測することを通じて，人の行動の文脈や背景にも配慮した的確でさりげない支援ができるための人物行動理解技術を中心に研究を行っている．
