私のテーマは、コミュニケーションの道具である言語を研究し、さらに言語がその背景とも言える文化や社会の中でどのように活用されるのかを考えることです。具体的には、日本語と韓国語という個別言語の様々な現象について記述・分析すること、そこから人間の言語一般にも有意義な特徴を明らかにすることや、得られた成果を通訳・翻訳などの関連分野に適用することなどに取り組んでいます。また、言語コミュニケーションで見られる省略現象も研究しています。言わなくても伝わりそうなことを省いて効率よく情報を伝える、というのはどの言語でも行われていますが、ひと言で「効率のよさ」といっても簡単ではありません。それをどのような形で実現するかは言語によって異なる上に、対象言語の母体である文化・社会環境などとも関連していると考えられる点で、非常に魅力的なテーマだと思います。
