私たちは自分の周りの世界に有りのままに知覚しているように感じていますが、実際には知覚される世界は様々な形でゆがんでいて、物理世界と同一ではありません。それなのに、私たちが普段なんの問題もなくその世界の中で行動できている（ように感じている）のはなぜなのでしょうか？
　私たちが意識的に行っているように感じている様々な認知活動や行動は、実はその大部分が意識に上らない無意識的な処理によることが最近の研究でわかってきています。その潜在的知覚・認知過程の働きを、巧妙にデザインされた実験によってあぶり出し、メカニズムを解明することが私の研究テーマです。現在は、情報の取捨選択を行う注意メカニズム、無意識的な学習・記憶、内発的な報酬系の役割、対人印象の形成過程、無意識的思考、熟練による直感力の向上など、幅広いテーマについて研究を進めています。
